What Can Women Do on This Day to Move the Needle Forward

Microsoft created a commercial in 2016, “What Can Women Make,” initiated by the company on International Women’s Day & in 2017, Make What’s Next: Change the Odds.  Showing the vast array of careers, products and services that women embark on is a very important message for all our children throughout the world, driving equal opportunities for all genders, and by going viral with this message, all our children (boys and girls alike) will be much more attuned to what women can do outside of the usual roles women have held in the past.  IWEC and Microsoft share a common concern and advocacy for women’s empowerment in the business world, and we, too, understand how important it is (as evidenced in their commercial) that girls know they can do anything – and that boys know that, too.

On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2018, we take Microsoft’s message a step further and encourage every successful woman business owner around the world  to go into a local grade school(s) (ages 6, 7, 8) or Girl Scout troops or Boy Scout troops,  YM & YWCA’s and other organizations focused on children and address the group/class(es) and tell the children,  “I make this” or “I lead that” or” I achieved this” and demonstrate to the class that women can do anything in any field! Show children at an early age that women are in all industries so that there is no question in their minds as they grow up that women are in all facets of businesses, communities and leadership.

And if possible, they can also take a group(s) of children to their workplace to show the breadth of their power, the vast array of products they manufacture, the amount of employees and operations they lead, and the many innovations and inventions that they have introduced into the market.

Our proposal is simple, but powerful.

IWEC’s robust network allows us to communicate and evangelize Microsoft’s message to hundreds of thousands of women leaders throughout the globe. Our ecosystem includes affiliate chamber, associated women’s organizations and other groups who are more than willing to work together with Microsoft to show the world the limitless industries and verticals in which women participate successfully.  Furthermore, our close ties with the United Nations/The International Trade Centre and global Chambers of Commerce enables us to swiftly broadcast this messaging and recruit viable women leaders to support this initiative.

IWEC looks forward to continuing this discussion with the United Nations Women and other organizations interested in promoting this initiative globally!
