There are more women in national parliaments around the world than ever before, according to an inter-Parliamentary Union report.  The global average rose from 22.6% in 2015 to 23.3% in 2016.

Here is a sample of countries with the highest percentage of female lawmakers:

Cuba – 48.9%          Iceland – 47.6%          Nicaragua – 45.7%          Sweden – 43.6%          Senegal – 42.7%

Finland – 42%          Ecuador – 41.6%          Norway – 39.6%

Note:  By the end of 2016, the leading countries were- Rwanda – 61.3%  and Bolivia at 53.1%
